India’s two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company has achieved a major milestone in the global auto industry by moving ahead of Yamaha Motor to become the third-largest two-wheeler brand in the world based on sales volumes.
The Hosur-based company recorded total global sales of 5.46 million units in 2025, marking a 20.7% jump from 4.52 million units in 2024. This strong growth helped TVS overtake Yamaha, which sold around 5 million units during the year and saw only 0.8% growth compared with the previous year.
With this achievement, TVS has strengthened India’s position in the global motorcycle industry. The top two spots remain occupied by Honda Motor Company and Hero MotoCorp. Honda continues to lead the market with 16.44 million units sold in 2025, while Hero MotoCorp holds the second position with 6.25 million units, registering a 5.2% growth year-on-year.
TVS’ rapid growth has been powered by electric mobility, premium motorcycles and global market expansion. The company has built a strong presence in India’s electric two-wheeler segment, with annual production nearing five lakh units, and is exploring additional manufacturing capacity to meet rising demand.
Another key factor has been the growing popularity of motorcycles above 150cc in India. As customers shift toward higher-capacity bikes, TVS has expanded its product lineup in the premium segment to capture this demand.
At the same time, the company continues to generate steady volumes from its commuter motorcycles and mopeds, which remain popular in many developing markets.
TVS is also expanding aggressively outside India. The company has strengthened its presence across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and parts of Europe, helping boost overall volumes.
In India, TVS currently ranks third in market share, contributing close to one-fifth of total industry sales.

Meanwhile, Yamaha’s growth has been more moderate as the Japanese brand has focused on select segments and premium models, gradually exiting some high-volume categories. A large part of Yamaha’s sales also comes from developed markets, where demand typically grows slower compared to emerging economies.
The company is now looking to expand its global reach further through its premium motorcycle brand Norton Motorcycles.
TVS entering the global top three means that two Indian companies TVS and Hero MotoCorp are now among the world’s largest two-wheeler makers, highlighting the growing influence of India in the global motorcycle industry.
