Shares of Vedanta Ltd<\/a> dropped sharply by over 62% to \u20b9289.5 on Thursday during a special pre-open session on the NSE, following the discovery of its ex-demerger price. The stock had previously closed at \u20b9773.6, with the steep fall reflecting the separation of value from its core business verticals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price adjustment comes ahead of the company\u2019s demerger record date on May 1. However, due to the Maharashtra Day market holiday, the exchange conducted a special session between 9:15 am and 9:45 am on April 30 to determine the revised trading price. The difference between the pre- and post-demerger price will help establish the valuation of the newly carved-out entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the restructuring plan, Vedanta<\/a> is spinning off its aluminium, power, oil & gas, and steel businesses into four independent listed companies. Shareholders holding the stock as of the record date will receive one share in each of these entities for every Vedanta share owned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investors who bought shares on or before April 29 remain eligible for the demerger benefits, while purchases from April 30 onwards will not qualify. Post-demerger, Vedanta Ltd will continue as a listed entity, while the new businesses will be listed separately over time, subject to regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is aimed at unlocking shareholder value, improving financial transparency, and enabling focused capital allocation.
